Just to be clear, the letter to Queer Eye, asking for their help in staging our museum, is right up there on the moviesforyourmind.com menu: CALLING THE QUEER EYE FAB FIVE!
As you may already know if you have read the letter to Queer Eye, we are trying to expose the truth about clothing pollution, turning our collection of rescued clothes from a warehouse storage unit, into a display worthy of Herrod's or Macy's.
As you think of the legions of homeless, the suffering poor, and the tens of thousands of average people displaced every year by increasingly catastrophic weather events, you will wonder why all these clothes are being thrown away. The purpose of this museum is to create awareness, so that clothes--or more importantly, their building block fibers--can be recycled and reused. This simply requires following the basic and successful model started in Prato, Italy. Currently, only about 13 percent of old clothing is recyled, with landfills and oceans being polluted by the other 87 percent. SIDEBAR: Since 17 million tons of textiles are thrown away each year in the U.S. alone (stats courtesy EPA), following the Prato model would create both jobs and revenue streams, with excellent opportunities for small businesses across the United States. After all, that's an average of 680 million pounds of clothing per state that can be given a new lease on life as clothing made from recycled fibers. Those economic boons are in addition, of course, to the minor victory of Saving the Planet.
All the information you need, including some terrifying statistics, are in the petition, and in the Queer Eye letter above.
We know that this is just a little outside of the normal Queer Eye program formula, so we need all the signatures we can get, to help persuade them to do their part to promote sustainable fashion, and thusly Change the World. Thanks so much! CALLING THE QUEER EYE FAB FIVE!
